Vancouver to Calgary

(By Sharyn and Sharon)

Our cruise ship from Alaska arrived in Vancouver Harbor early one June morning this summer.  The welcoming vista was a thin line of clouds hanging just above the horizon giving this Terminal City a sleepy look.  But sleepy is not what this beautiful city is about as we were soon to see firsthand.

First order of business was checking into our hotel (do any hotels allow you to settle in early at 10 a.m.?)  Thankfully the Blue Horizon Hotel was a “find.”  This centrally located, privately-owned hotel is definitely competition for the big chains by providing larger rooms, fabulous views of the Strait of Georgia as well as our coveted free in-room WiFi.  It is located on Robson Street, the main downtown shopping street, making it easy for us to check off items on our "Gifts Purchased Lists" and then enjoy the gourmet coffee in the terrific restaurant downstairs.

Then: time to be tourists!  The bus stop for several tourist attractions was just across the street so off we went on the Vancouver Trolley - and the next day the free bus to the Capilano Suspension Bridge.

But today, Sharon was especially keen on visiting Stanley Park – and it did not disappoint.  Towering redwoods, the Lost Lagoon and Nature House, trains, totem poles, beaches and trails make it known around the globe as one of the world’s greatest parks.

Sharyn especially enjoyed the exquisite Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Chinese Garden and colorful Gastown (a mixture of trendy stores and eateries alongside souls who appeared stuck in the 60’s).

The next day called for visiting the picturesque town of Victoria and the stunning Butchart Gardens on Vancouver Island.  In the afternoon the awesome Capilano Suspension Bridge beckoned us.  Even many faint of heart found this wonder irresistible and ventured across the span over rushing water and incredible forest.

A half day at Grouse Mountain via the sky tram was another “must” we had to check off before departing Vancouver.  In one show birds of prey flew over the crowds to rejoin their trainers who provided fascinating lessons about each bird.  Grizzly bears also roamed in a natural habitat – including one playing in a large pond grabbing his toes!

Tomorrow we are off to Jasper!

Introducing Sharon and Sharyn

I'm so excited to let you all know that I will be having two guest writers for the next few posts!
Sharon and Sharyn are two gals who met on a Windjammer Cruise in the Caribbean some years ago and have become, not only great friends, but great travel buddies!

How do I know these two women with the same first name?  Well I've only had the pleasure of meeting Sharon. Which I will lovingly refer to as Sharon #1.  We also met on a Windjammer Cruise in the Caribbean in 2006.  Yes, Sharon #1 does love her Windjammer Cruise's!  If you read my stories on the trip I took to Australia in 2009, you might remember reading about my friend "Sharon" who met me "Down Under" and all the fun we had during our 3 week adventure!.  If you missed my stories on Australia, you can read about them by clicking here.

Now I have only been fortunate enough to have traveled again with Sharon #1 only once.  And I'm kind of jealous that I didn't get to join her on this amazing trip she and Sharyn #2 took together
in June 2013.

But I'm going to enjoy reading about it and seeing all the wonderful pictures of their trip!

I hope you enjoy it as much as I will!

Really?

Well the time has come when I have to start using the Verification option for the wonderful comments that all my followers leave.

It seems that some people don't have any better way to spend their time like we all do.  Come on you guys (or whatever you are) get out and travel, see the sights, enjoy the beauty, go have a cup of coffee, take a walk in the park!

So to those of you who dislike Comment Verification, I apologize full heartily.  But some really nasty comments have been left on my blog and I don't want anyone to be offended when they come across such comments.

I don't want to close this blog, so this is the first step to try and keep those who have nothing better to do with their lives from posting unrelated comments to my stories.

I hope you continue to follow and read about my travels....and keep leaving me your wonderful comments!

I love reading about your thoughts and I cherish each and everyone of you!!

I Have A New Blog!

As some of you may or may not know I moved to Reno Nevada just over a year ago after being diagnosed with Melanoma Level 4 and I have been very busy with my new life here.

I know I haven't been very diligent with posts about my travels and I would try and sneak in a post now and then.  And worst of all, after visiting your blogs, I would just read and run without leaving a comment about how much I enjoyed your stories and experiences.  Something all of us bloggers love!  Comments!!

Some of my posts here have included some of the things I've seen and done since moving to Reno.  And these posts have been the driving force behind starting my new blog!

Oh I will continue to share my travel stories with you here and hope that you will continue to follow me and leave comments.

But I am also hoping you will take a look at my new blog "Here Is Why I Love Living In Reno"

I would love to have you as a follower and read your comments!  I also would love any tips you might have on how to make my new blog as great as yours!  Betsy from "Joyous Reflections" has given me a few suggestions and I have taken her advice and made those changes!  Thank you, Betsy!!

So I hope you come on by and see why "I Love Living In Reno"!

You can click this link "Here Is Why I Love Living In Reno" and read all about "Why"

SkyWatch Friday - Sunset at Seaside

I spent the last 2 weeks visiting one of my favorite States.....Oregon!

I never tire of traveling the coast of Oregon and this last trip is another good reason why!

This trip was a girls getaway with my dear long time friend Suzy from Tonopah.  We had a blast visiting old friends and spending time with her mother.  We made several little trips all over Oregon, which of course included the coast!  And believe this or not, we actually went to a part of the Oregon Coast that I had never seen!!  I know crazy huh???

I've been on the very South Coast of Oregon at the California boarder and only as far North as Tillamook.  So visiting Seaside for the very first time was an absolute thrill!

Now I've seen some pretty amazing sunsets during my travels.  Unforgettable Fiji, beautiful Lake Tahoe, and nothing like a sunset in Africa.  But I tell you, the colors in this paticular sunset where unforgettable!

Now watch the colors change as the sunsets

The perfect ending to a perfect day in Seaside!

I have written this little story in conjuction with participating in SkyWatch Friday.

Just a little note.....these pictures were taken SOOC with no filters!!

Where Was I? - 2

Thank you everyone for your overwhelming response to my first "Where Was I" post last week!  There were a lot of really great guesses!
But ultimately Kay from "Unfittie's Guide to Adventurous Travel" had the right guess after reading your comments and narrowing it down to, Where I was!
Reno, Nevada!!!!
Who knew?  Such a beautiful street in Reno Nevada could make you think and feel like you were actually driving down a country road in the English Countryside....Good Guess One Fly!

So let's see if you can guess today's "Where Was I?"

I spent a long weekend here, surrounded by vineyards, storks and castles!

But nothing could match the quaintness of these cobblestone streets winding through brightly colored buildings filled with pastries, souvenirs and hot wine!

Thank goodness I didn't have to stop at either one of these places to grab a bite to eat!

Why would I, when I could have a meal like this!!!

Where Was I? - 1

So I thought I would try something new!
I will post pictures from places I've been and you try to guess where I took the pictures!
I will give you a hint, or two, to help you narrow down your guess.

I was out for a drive, just getting familiar with the new area.  Didn't want to drive where I had already been.  I've already mingled with the tourists walking along the River while watching Kayakers practice their techniques. It was too cold to go to the Lake, but not enough snow to ski!

This is what I saw!

SkyWatch Friday - Solar Eclipse

Wow!  I've been gone for awhile from posting on my blog!  Whole new format!  So let's see if this works!

First of all, to all my followers, again, so sorry for not being very active here and for not sharing some of my great adventures.   I've been to some really great places since living here in Reno and I know you are going to love the stories, pictures and tips!!

Okay, time to share the Solar Eclipse as seen from my backyard in Reno!

Of course as soon as it was time to see the Eclipse the clouds decided to roll in!

All the pictures above were taken SOOC with no filters!

These next pictures, Stijn brought me a CD to use as a filter after reading about it on the internet.  He is such a thoughtful husband!!

Stella just didn't see what the big deal was....

I am particapating in "SkyWatch Friday"
